The United States was founded on the high ideals of independence and self sufficiency. These ideals were initially defined by white, Eastern European males. The major forces which built our nation’s economy reflect a similar single-mindedness. In the 21st century, we live in a diverse culture in a world-wide economy. The challenge we face is to make the most of our diversity in order to optimize our opportunities as a nation.
This presentation will include stories of first-hand experiences with discrimination, the challenges of maintaining cultural heritage while striving to realize the “American Dream”, and the challenges of holding multi-cultural dialogues on the issues we face in our communities. Along the way, we will look at what can be learned from current trends in organizational thinking.
